When it comes to living with more ease, I’m the first one to sing the praises of hanging out in the present moment, however, I will now contradict myself and recommend looking back at your past.
By gazing back at the path behind you, you will notice that life has some habits and patterns in its behaviour. Just like you and I, life has a sacred set of truths – parts of its personality that have been there since day one and they ain’t going anywhere.
The truths about life are what life has shown you about itself time and time again.
Much like understanding a person, when you take note of life’s habits and patterns, it’s showing itself to you. And like the old adage goes, when someone shows themselves to you, believe them.
Life has shown you that nothing is permanent. Look back and take stock of all the places you’ve lived, the jobs that you’ve had, and the people who have come and gone. Life has shown you time and time again to expect things to change rather than things to stay remain the same. Change is often seen as something that comes along and disrupts the flow of life, but the truth is, change is the flow of life.
To live with more ease, can you believe what life has shown you and let go of your expectations that things will last? Rather than try to get the ground up under your feet, can you embrace the temporary nature of all things?
Life has shown you that it’s unpredictable. Look back and take stock of all the times you told yourself that you knew exactly how things were going to turn out, and then the future ended up to be completely different. While we’re at, take note of the many plans you’ve made and what actually took place. How many times has life has surprised you?
To live with more ease, can you believe what life has shown you and keep an open mind and heart to the infinite amount of possibilities that lay before you? Rather than make assumptions about the future, can you live in the mystery?
Life has shown you that it’s always on your side. Look back and take stock of all the blessings in disguise – the way that everything has served a purpose, worked out for the best, or ended up to make sense in some way. Nothing is going wrong right now because there never has been.
To live with more ease, can you believe what life has shown you and that is nothing is out of order. Rather than worry, can you trust the process?
These are the truths about life. And life will give you opportunities to work with those truths or against them…time and time again.
Wanting someone to be different than they are and arguing with that reality is what will always create struggle. When you acknowledge and accept what’s true about someone, there is a lightness felt that comes from the resistance being removed.
The very same thing goes for life.
You don’t have to believe it, it’s just easier if you do.

I have used this type of reflection to understand my strengths and what I really love to do in life! I very valuable tool/technique in self awareness.
You got it, Martha! To “know thyself” and honour that truth is the key point of awakening that leads us to fulfilling your life’s highest purpose. 🙂
